Five Indian crew members rescued after Kuwait-flagged tanker hit by projectile near Hormuz

Five Indian nationals were safely brought ashore after a Kuwait-flagged tanker was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the Indian Embassy in Oman said. The embassy said it coordinated with Omani authorities to assist the crew members aboard the MT Kazimah III, ensuring their safe evacuation. “All 5 Indian nationals have been shifted ashore safely,” the embassy said in a post on X.

No immediate details were available on the origin of the projectile or the extent of damage sustained by the tanker. The incident comes amid heightened security concerns affecting commercial shipping in and around the Gulf. Indian authorities are continuing to monitor the safety of Indian seafarers operating on vessels in the region, news agencies reports.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said earlier this week that more than 4,500 Indian seafarers were working aboard commercial vessels operating in the region. He also said about 163 Indian crew members were aboard six Indian-flagged ships and six foreign-flagged vessels carrying cargo bound for India.

India’s shipping authorities are coordinating with diplomatic missions and local authorities to monitor vessel movements and provide assistance when required.
