Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) opened in Doha on Monday with the participation of Kuwait’s Minister of Finance Dr Yaqoub Al-Refaie. Held under the theme “Infrastructure for Tomorrow: Impact and Innovation,” the two-day meeting brings together representatives of AIIB’s member countries and financial and development institutions.
Qatar’s Minister of Finance and 2026 Chair of the AIIB Board of Governors Ali Al-Kuwari said Qatar was among the bank’s founding members in 2015, reflecting its belief in the need for a new institution focused on infrastructure development in Asia. Eleven years later, AIIB has grown to 111 members, with approved financing reaching nearly $70 billion, Al-Kuwari said.

He added that Qatar’s hosting of the meeting reflects its commitment to international partnerships and greater dialogue and cooperation among countries and financial and development institutions.
AIIB President Zou Jiayi said the bank aims to expand its development impact and nearly double its annual financing to around $20 billion by 2030, with a focus on financing future-oriented infrastructure. She said the next phase would centre on increasing development impact through innovation and integrity, while expanding the bank’s business and leveraging areas where it has comparative advantages.
AIIB Vice Chair of the Board of Governors and Tajikistan’s State Committee for Investment and State Property Management Chairman Sulton Rahimzoda said the bank was established a decade ago on the understanding that Asia’s infrastructure ambitions require partnership, innovation and the ability to mobilise capital on a large scale.
Headquartered in Beijing, AIIB is a multilateral development bank established through an international initiative. It has 111 member countries, authorised capital of $100 billion and an AAA credit rating from major international rating agencies.
