MoI issues 678 citations, arrests dozens during nationwide security campaign
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced Sunday that it had arrested a number of wanted individuals and violators, and issued 432 traffic violations during a large-scale security campaign conducted in cooperation with Kuwait Municipality and the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition.
In a press statement, the Ministry said that the campaign aimed at strengthening security presence, apprehending wanted persons and violators, and enforcing the law, stating that the campaign resulted in a total of 678 violations.
The campaign resulted in the arrest of 72 people wanted for arrest in cases related to absenteeism, 53 violators of the residency law, 19 individuals wanted in criminal cases, four individuals wanted in civil debt cases, 16 people working as unauthorized or irregular laborers, and one person wanted in a case involving the forgery of official documents, the Ministry said.
Furthermore, the campaign included setting up checkpoints and handling cases involving possession of alcohol, a vehicle wanted for judicial seizure, and a street vendor. It also involved removing abandoned vehicles and closing an unlicensed men’s salon in cooperation with Kuwait Municipality.
On Failaka Island, 11 people were arrested for transporting and selling fish using vehicles and methods that did not meet the required regulations, in cooperation with the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, the statement added. Seven people were also arrested in possession of four hunting firearms.
The Ministry, represented by the General Department for Narcotics Control, further announced Sunday the arrest of nine suspects in five separate cases. They were found in possession of narcotics and psychotropic substances intended for trafficking and personal use.
It pointed out that the seized items included methamphetamine (“shabu”), hashish, heroin, psychotropic pills, Captagon, papers soaked with a chemical substance known as “chemical,” five precision scales, capsules containing Lyrica, a quantity of dokha tobacco (“tanbak”), and money believed to be proceeds from sales. The suspects and the seized items were referred to the relevant authorities.
