53 vehicles impounded under smart home vehicle impoundment system
GTD sets 50-dinar fine for ‘tampering’ with the new system

The General Traffic Department impounded 53 vehicles at their owners’ homes on the first day of implementing the home vehicle impoundment system, as part of measures targeting violations that require vehicle seizure. The department said 47 vehicles were impounded at the Doha impoundment garage, while six were impounded at the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh impoundment garage.
Under the system, anyone who violates the home impoundment order faces a 50-dinar penalty, after which the vehicle is transferred to an impoundment lot. The violator may also be referred to court if the responsible authorities deem it necessary.
The department said the installation fee for the smart home impoundment device is 10 dinars, in addition to two dinars per day for the impoundment period. Vehicles remain under round-the-clock monitoring by the Traffic Operations Department.
If a violator breaks the impoundment order, the department said the person will be summoned immediately. The measure is part of the Ministry of Interior’s strategy to develop its operational system and expand the use of smart technologies adopted by the General Directorate of Traffic.
It involves installing a smart home impoundment device on vehicles whose violations require impoundment, in accordance with approved controls and procedures. The device is installed on the vehicle at the location where the violation occurred. The impoundment period begins at midnight on the same day, allowing time for the vehicle to be delivered to the designated home impoundment location.
Once the impoundment period expires, the violator will receive a notification through the Sahl application directing them to one of the locations designated by the General Directorate of Traffic to complete the procedures for releasing the vehicle.
