244 juveniles arrested in one month for driving without license; GTD urges families to act

The General Traffic Department wrote on its X platform that between June 28 and July 28, 2025, a total of 244 juveniles were referred to the competent authorities for driving vehicles without licenses.
The department emphasized that this highlights the critical role of families and society in supervising children and preventing them from driving illegally, given the serious legal and safety risks involved.
The Traffic Affairs and Operations Sector, of the General Traffic Department and the General Department of Rescue Police, called on the parents to protect their children, stressing the importance of adhering to traffic laws to safeguard their lives and the safety of other road users.
The authorities have warned that juveniles caught driving without licenses face legal prosecution with significant consequences that may affect their futures.
A broadcast clip from recent enforcement campaigns showed arrested juveniles aged between 17 and 18 years, some admitting to stealing the vehicle “switch” from relatives before being caught by traffic officers.
The clip also depicted officers explaining the procedures: juveniles are referred to the Juvenile Prosecution for filing cases, owners of the vehicles receive violations, and further referrals are made to the relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, from August 2 to 8, the GTD intensified its enforcement campaigns across all six governorates of Kuwait to curb traffic violations and reduce accidents that cause injuries and fatalities.
According to official statistics obtained by Al-Anba, a total of 27,593 traffic violations were issued in the past week. The Capital Traffic Department recorded the highest number with 7,043 violations, followed by Farwaniya with 5,224, Ahmadi with 5,210, and Jahra with 3,858 violations. The remaining violations were distributed among other governorates.
During the same period, 1,224 traffic accidents were reported, including 178 accidents involving injuries and 1,046 accidents causing only material damage.
During this period 28 juveniles were arrested for driving without licenses and referred to Juvenile Prosecution. Additionally, 27 motorists were arrested for committing serious violations and handed over to the traffic police.
Officers also impounded 17 vehicles and motorcycles and seized 65 vehicles wanted by the judiciary. They arrested 48 individuals wanted for various offenses, 115 expatriates violating residency laws, four people found in abnormal conditions, and two individuals found in possession of narcotics.
