194 expats deported as Kuwait intensifies crackdown on drugs

Kuwait has so deported 194 expatriates of various nationalities possessing and trafficking in drugs a during a 30-day period, as the security authorities have intensified efforts to combat narcotics and psychotropic substances across the country.

Statistics issued by the Directorate-General for Drug Control, for September 1–30, 2026, showed that authorities recorded 160 drug-related cases involving 205 suspects, while 15 misdemeanor cases involving 16 accused persons were also registered, reports Al-Rai daily.

The crackdown resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics and psychotropic substances, including approximately 725,000 Lyrica pills and 9 grams of Lyrica powder. The authorities also seized 14.495 kilograms of hashish, 244.62 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 5.159 kilograms of heroin, 4.308 grams of marijuana, 6 grams of chemical drugs and 305 grams of cocaine, along with two bottles of alcohol.

The statistics also showed that 141 cases involving drug smuggling, trafficking and use involving 189 accused during the month. In addition to the arrests the DGDC also dealt with 52 addiction-related complaints, reflecting the wider scope of its efforts to address both drug trafficking and substance abuse.

The security operations also led to the seizure of three weapons, including a shotgun, a Kalashnikov rifle, four pistols and an air rifle. The figures underline the scale of Kuwait’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking, with authorities targeting both the supply chain and individuals involved in possession, promotion and use of illicit substances.
