Kuwait puts under microscope 116 suspects involved in crypto mining

As government exerts tremendous efforts to conserve electricity to beat the rising summer temperatures, the Public Prosecution is investigating 31 cases, comprising 116 individuals, who are allegedly involved the illegal use of power supply for cryptocurrency mining across 59 residential properties.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Public Prosecution emphasized the importance of responsible resource usage and reiterated its commitment to protecting the state’s resources and national interests, according to Al-Jarida daily.

The Prosecution affirmed it will take firm legal action against anyone found guilty of exploiting the public electricity grid for unauthorized usage.

The statement underscored that electrical energy is a strategic national asset and must be used solely for its intended purposes.

The authorities revealed that individuals had been using subsidized residential electricity to power crypto mining operations for quick financial gain, thereby straining the grid and harming the public interest.

The investigation is being carried out in coordination with relevant government agencies.
