Farewell to His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Adarsh Swaika

By Shakeel Ahmad Khan
Social Secretary
Embassy of India, Kuwait

It was never easy to bid farewell to a distinguished diplomat and leader whose presence had left such a lasting impact. As His Excellency Dr. Adarsh Swaika departed Kuwait to assume his new role as the High Commissioner of India to Kenya and Permanent Representative to UNEP & UN-Habitat — also concurrently accredited as Ambassador of India to Somalia — we extended our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for his continued success.

During his nearly three-year tenure as Ambassador of India to the State of Kuwait, beginning in late 2022, His Excellency demonstrated exemplary leadership marked by patience, pragmatism, and a results-driven approach. Under his stewardship, India–Kuwait relations reached new heights, evolving into a strategic partnership grounded in mutual respect and collaboration.

Through regular high-level meetings, vibrant cultural engagements, business collaborations, and community outreach — including his signature Open House sessions — Ambassador Swaika forged close and cordial ties with both Kuwaiti officials and the Indian diaspora. He made every Indian in Kuwait feel that the Embassy was truly their home away from home.

His tenure was remembered for several landmark achievements, including the historic visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to Kuwait after a 43-year gap by an Indian Premier, and the conferring of the Padma Shri on Sheikha Shaikha Ali Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for her outstanding contribution to promoting Yoga and Indian culture — a testament to the depth and warmth of bilateral relations.

Under his guidance, both nations also witnessed reciprocal visits by the Foreign Ministers in 2024, along with the signing of key Memoranda of Understanding, notably the MoU on Defence Cooperation and Kuwait’s accession to the International Solar Alliance. His vision also placed strong emphasis on economic engagement, with major conferences promoting investment, tourism, and information technology between the two nations.
