Ahmadi Governor leads field tour of KNPC bridge painting initiative

As part of Kuwait’s continued efforts under the Green Urban Development Initiatives, Ahmadi Governor and Committee Chairman Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah went an inspection tour on Tuesday evening to assess the progress of a beautification and sustainability project launched by the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).
The project focuses on painting major road bridges across the country as a means to improve the aesthetic appeal of Kuwait’s urban environment.
Joining the tour were Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governor and Acting Governor of Hawalli, Sheikh Sabah Bader Al-Sabah, senior officials from KNPC, and representatives from relevant government institutions.
The delegation visited the Messila Bridge, at the intersection of the Sixth Ring Road and Fahaheel Expressway, where Sheikh Hamoud personally participated in the painting effort — a gesture underscoring the Committee’s hands-on commitment to environmental and urban improvement initiatives.
During the tour, Sheikh Hamoud Al-Jaber praised KNPC’s active involvement, noting that this was the second completed project, with several more initiatives scheduled under the Green Urban Development Committee, which operates in coordination with the Council of Ministers and the country’s governors.
“We are witnessing the completion of comprehensive work on bridge beautification, thanks to KNPC’s initiative,” he said. “There are more initiatives to come, and we encourage both individuals and institutions to contribute. Our collective ambition is to foster a more sustainable and aesthetically pleasing urban environment.”
Sheikh Sabah Bader Al-Sabah echoed this sentiment, expressing his appreciation for the role such initiatives play in strengthening collaboration between government bodies, the private sector, and the public. He emphasized the importance of continuing and diversifying community-driven projects that support environmental sustainability and urban enhancement.
Khaled Al-Fadhli, Head of the Maintenance Team at KNPC’s Ahmadi Refineries, provided further details on the initiative. He explained that KNPC had developed a comprehensive plan to paint and maintain seven major bridges in Kuwait, in line with the specifications approved by the Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Interior, and the General Traffic Department.
The bridges included in the project are:
- Sixth Ring Road and Fahaheel Expressway (Messila Bridge)
- Salwa and Mishref Bridge with Fahaheel Intersection
- Bayan and Salwa Bridge with Fahaheel Intersection
- Fifth Ring Road
- Fourth Ring Road with Fahaheel Intersection
- Fourth Ring Road with Damascus Street Intersection
- Fourth Ring Road with Adailiya and Khaldiya Intersection
According to Al-Fadhli, the project began a month and a half ago, and six bridges have already been completed, with the final bridge slated for completion by the end of this month.
He thanked all participating entities, particularly the Ministry of Interior, Kuwait Municipality, Ministry of Public Works, and the Traffic Department, for their cooperation in expediting permits and facilitating logistics.
Al-Fadhli emphasized that this initiative is part of KNPC’s ongoing commitment to community service, stating, “This is not our first community project, and it certainly won’t be our last. We are dedicated to advancing the company’s social responsibility through continuous engagement in urban and environmental development.”
The tour marked a significant milestone in Kuwait’s broader vision for sustainable urban development, as government bodies and national institutions work hand-in-hand to beautify public spaces and foster environmental awareness throughout the country.
