‘Women are capable of playing a key role in mediation and peacebuilding’
In GCC states, women, are increasingly at the forefront, having joined the military and defense sectors, which demonstrates that their participation is no longer limited to politics or diplomacy reflecting women’s capacity to excel across all areas of public and professional life -- Sheikha Jawaher Al-Duaij

Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Duaij, was quoted as saying women have the ability and strength to contribute effectively to mediation and peacemaking efforts.
She said this during an event organized by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the League of Arab States and UN Women, held on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development under the title “Women’s Role in Peacebuilding: Voices from the Arab World” in Doha.
Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher stressed that women are too often portrayed merely as victims, and urged the media to reformulate the image of women and highlight their active roles in leadership, conflict resolution, and peace processes.

She noted that women are fully capable of performing significant and complex tasks, including serving as mediators and builders of peace.
She also pointed out that women in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are increasingly at the forefront, having joined the military and defense sectors, which demonstrates that their participation is no longer limited to political or diplomatic fields.
This, she emphasized, reflects women’s capacity to excel across all areas of public and professional life.
During her address, Sheikha Jawaher reviewed examples of women’s contributions to diplomacy and mediation, as well as their presence and effectiveness in conflict zones and challenging environments, reaffirming their essential role in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development.
