The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) at the Haditha port thwarted an attempt to smuggle 406,395 amphetamine (Captagon) pills, which were found hidden in a shipment arriving into the Kingdom through the port.
ZATCA explained that an incoming shipment of sheep, which had been subjected to customs procedures and inspection using security technologies and live equipment, was found to contain the grain hidden inside the sheep’s fur.
Following the seizure, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to ensure the arrest of the recipients of the seized items within the Kingdom. Three suspects were taken into custody.
ZATCA affirmed its continued tightening of customs controls over the Kingdom’s imports and exports, and its continued vigilance against smugglers’ attempts. This is in line with the most prominent pillars of its strategy, which is to enhance the security and protection of society by reducing the smuggling of pests and prohibited items.
