Water reserves to increase as ‘Electricity Ministry’ addresses technical issues

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is taking proactive steps to restore its strategic water reserve after a recent decline due to technical issues. To address this, the ministry plans to restart the reverse osmosis water production unit at the Al-Zour South Station on Tuesday, 11th March, following a temporary shutdown caused by technical difficulties.
Informed sources revealed to Al-Rai that the ministry plans to restart the water production unit at the Al-Zour South Station, adding 30 million gallons to the supply and boosting overall production. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to bring three distillers online at the Subiya Station after completing maintenance on the boilers that power them, further enhancing water production capacity.
The sources highlighted that, as part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to boost water production, it has urged the company responsible for maintaining the production units at the North Shuaiba Station to expedite its work. This will enable the operation of two distillers with a combined capacity of 30 million gallons. They emphasized that restarting the reverse osmosis units at the Al-Zour South Station, along with bringing the distillers at the North Shuaiba and Subiya stations online, will significantly enhance the ministry’s water production capacity and strengthen the strategic reserve.
Regarding electricity, the Ministry has formally requested the Central Agency for Public Tenders to reconsider approving the launch of Phase Four of the Al-Subiya Station project, which aims to add 900 megawatts to the national grid. This request follows the Ministry’s completion of a detailed response addressing the Agency’s inquiries, ensuring all necessary clarifications are provided.
Sources emphasized that the Ministry is placing significant reliance on the timely execution of this vital project to strengthen its electricity production capacity, especially amid delays in other power generation projects. They explained that once the Central Tenders Agency’s Board of Directors grants approval; the tendering process will be initiated, followed by the completion of the remaining procedural steps to bring the project to fruition.
Importantly, sources revealed that the Ministry has finalized its response to the Central Tenders Agency’s inquiries regarding the Nuwaiseeb Station Consultant Tender (Phase One). With this step completed, the Ministry is now preparing to set a date for launching the consulting tender.
