War on drugs continue unabated — 527 trafficking cases, 823 accused, massive drug haul

Authorities say these figures highlight the scale of Kuwait’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking networks and their associated criminal activities.

The Ministry of Interior has released the latest comprehensive statistics on drug-related crimes, revealing an alarming surge in smuggling and trafficking activities.

Since the beginning of the year, 527 drug smuggling and trafficking cases have been recorded, involving 823 suspects, reports Al-Rai daily.

This is in addition, 1,359 cases of drug abuse; cases filed against 1,675 individuals and 70 against unknown persons.

The authorities confirmed that 729 people have been deported in connection with drug and alcohol cases.

The seizures were staggering: — 959 kilos of hashish; 391 kilos of shabu; 30 kilos of heroin; 4.7 kilos of cocaine; 142 kilos of marijuana; 227 kilos of chemicals and powder; 6.8 million Lyrica pills and 12,141 bottles and 31 barrels of alcohol.

Weapons were also confiscated during the operations including 13 shotguns, 11 Kalashnikov rifles, one M16, 25 pistols, and 968 rounds of ammunition.

The authorities stressed that these figures highlight the scale of Kuwait’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking networks and their associated criminal activities.
