Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi strongly criticized U.S. trade policy today, stating that Washington’s additional tariffs on various countries violates World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
He warned that these actions are undermining global industrial and supply chains and slowing the pace of global economic recovery.
Speaking at the annual foreign ministers’ meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Wang was quoted by China Central Television (CCTV) as saying, “U.S. President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs are irresponsible, unpopular, and unsustainable.”
Wang emphasized that the current international landscape is marked by significant upheaval, and nations now face a choice between unilateralism or multilateralism, isolation or openness, and division or unity, reports Al-Rai daily.
Highlighting China’s alternative approach, Wang noted that Beijing has removed tariffs on 100% of goods exported from Africa and least developed countries and has finalized talks on the third version of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area Agreement, reinforcing China’s commitment to cooperation and openness
