While the Khaleeji Zain 26 has been heralded as an overwhelming success in Kuwait, a large slice of the credit goes to the volunteers who have provided unwavering support over the past two weeks.
Thousands of Kuwaiti citizens and residents answered the call to help make their nation proud, and they were on duty again last night to ensure the final between Bahrain and Oman was another memorable occasion.
Each volunteer was put through a training programme of both practical and theoretical sessions to ensure they were ready to welcome more than 450,000 fans who packed the two stadiums for the 15 matches held.
They were soundly praised by the visitors who poured in from across the Gulf as well as their countrymen and women who showed tremendous support to the tournament.
The legacy is a trained army now ready to step in and support Kuwait when the call for volunteers is made again in the future for any major event.
