In a show of cultural unity and international diplomacy, the Vietnamese Embassy in Kuwait has hosted a reception at the Al Kout Beach Hotel to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2024 on Saturday.

This year’s festivities held heightened significance due to the United Nations’ recent recognition of the Lunar New Year as a global holiday, solidifying its presence on the world stage.

His Excellency Ngo Tuan Thang, Vietnamese Ambassador to Kuwait, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the Lunar New Year’s profound meaning as a time for families to reconnect, reflect on accomplishments, and welcome auspicious beginnings.

He underscored the robust relationship between Kuwait and Vietnam, emphasizing the significant presence of 300-400 Vietnamese residents who actively contribute to the country’s economic fabric across vital sectors including oil and gas, construction, and aviation.

During the event, Ambassador Thang lauds the growing number of Vietnamese flight attendants employed by Kuwait Airways, symbolizing the deepening ties between the two nations.

Acknowledging the increasing interest in Vietnamese tourism, Ambassador Thang unveiled promising news for Kuwaiti travelers.

Following a surge of nearly 1,000 visitors from Vietnam in 2023, discussions are underway between Kuwait Airways and Vietnam Airlines to inaugurate direct flight routes, with a tentative commencement date set for March this year.

He also highlighted the significant success of the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, one of Kuwait’s largest investments in Vietnam, and commended the complex’s impressive financial performance.

Not only did it achieve remarkable outcomes, but it also exceeded expectations by repaying its loan two months ahead of schedule, demonstrating its unwavering dedication to economic stability and steadfast fulfillment of financial obligations.

Education remained a key bridge between the two nations, with Ambassador Thang acknowledging the positive impact of Kuwait’s scholarship program, which grants Vietnamese students the opportunity to study Arabic for one year. The evening included captivating musical performances by Vietnamese students studying Arabic at Kuwait University.

The Vietnamese Embassy’s Lunar New Year celebration served as a testament to the strong friendship between Kuwait and Vietnam. Amidst a global embrace of inclusivity and the celebration of intercultural bridges, this event reverberated with the essence of the newly acknowledged Lunar New Year, serving as a beacon for mutual enrichment and fostering deeper understanding between diverse communities.
