USA Congratulates Kuwait on National and Liberation Days

On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate His Highness Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al Sabah and the Kuwaiti people on the occasion of Kuwait’s National Day and Liberation Day. These two days mark pivotal moments in Kuwait’s history, celebrating the founding of the modern Kuwaiti state and commemorating the anniversary of its liberation.
Thirty-five years ago, the guns fell silent in Kuwait as the last of Saddam Hussein’s defeated legions fled north across the border. An international coalition, led by nearly 700,000 American soldiers, shattered the dictator’s war machine and restored freedom to Kuwait. We honor those who fought, suffered, and died for the freedom the Kuwaiti people enjoy today. That shared struggle reinforced a US-Kuwait relationship built on a foundation of trust, cooperation, and shared interests. Today, our defense partnership, the legacy of Desert Storm, has evolved to deliver training and advanced American technologies that strengthen Kuwait’s Armed Forces and contribute to regional security.
And our partnership extends well beyond security: Kuwaiti businesses invest and operate across the United States, American companies are embedded in Kuwait’s core industries and daily economy, and thousands of Kuwaiti students educated at US universities have gone on to lead and build across government, business, and society. Together, we work to drive growth and build a better future for both our nations. This year, as Kuwait celebrates its 65th National Day, America will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Since that day in 1776, our founding ideals have shaped our interaction with the world, leading to American diplomacy that protects our national interests by promoting global peace, security, and prosperity. Just as the United States answered Kuwait’s call in 1991, our leadership is shaping a free and open world today, and we thank His Highness the Amir for boldly accepting the invitation to the President’s Board of Peace. The United States and Kuwait are moving forward together into a bright future. Here’s to 35, 65, and 250 more years as friends and allies. I extend my most sincere best wishes to the leadership and people of Kuwait. On behalf of the United States of America, congratulations on this historic anniversary. I look forward to fostering stronger and deeper ties between our countries and peoples
