US special operations forces carried out a raid last month on a vessel traveling from China to Iran in the Indian Ocean, seizing military-related materials, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing US officials.
According to the report, the operation took place several hundred miles off the coast of Sri Lanka, according to international news reports.
Officials said the seized cargo included components that could potentially be used in Iran’s conventional weapons programs. The shipment was later destroyed.
After the inspection and seizure, the vessel was permitted to continue its voyage, the newspaper added.
The incident highlights ongoing US efforts to monitor and disrupt the transfer of military-related materials to Iran amid heightened regional and international security concerns.
