Argent LNG CEO Jonathan Bass announced that three American firms — Argent LNG, Baker Hughes, and Hunt Energy — are collaborating to design a comprehensive master plan for the revival of Syria’s oil, gas, and electricity sectors.
The initiative marks a historic shift, as it follows the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Syria by President Donald Trump in late June, ending one of the world’s most restrictive sanctions regimes.
The plan aims to rebuild Syria’s war-ravaged energy infrastructure, severely damaged over 14 years of conflict. Bass stated that the consortium will focus on exploration, extraction, and power generation, including the construction of combined-cycle power plants, and is working in coordination with relevant Syrian authorities.
“This is about laying the groundwork to restore generation capacity and improve energy services in the short term,” Bass said, noting that the companies have already completed a preliminary assessment of opportunities in the sector. He declined to offer further operational details.
This American-led effort comes as Gulf countries and other regional powers move quickly to secure deals in Syria’s energy and port sectors, amid the country’s re-emergence onto the global stage.
