UNHCR and British Council partner to provide English Language training for youth in need
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in partnership with the British Council in Kuwait, has launched an English language training program aimed at developing the skills and educational levels of youth supported by UNHCR Kuwait, thereby enhancing their employment opportunities.
The British Council has generously contributed 25% of the course fees, reinforcing their dedication to fostering educational inclusion and empowerment.
The UNHCR, in collaboration with the British Council in Kuwait, launched an English language learning program aimed at developing the skills and educational level of young people benefiting from UNHCR services in Kuwait and enhancing their employment opportunities.
The agreement was signed by Tony Skinner, Country Director of the British Council in Kuwait, and Nisreen Rubaian, UNHCR Representative in Kuwait at the United Nations House in Mishref. The English language training programme, which is set to begin in December 2024, will enroll 10 selected students in comprehensive courses, ranging from foundational to advanced levels, culminating in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)preparation.
Nisreen Rubaian, UNHCR Representative in Kuwait, emphasized the significance of this initiative, and said: “It is undeniable that having a well-equipped generation of youth; regardless of their background, is imperative for building a promising and sustainable future where they can fulfil their potential and flourish.This partnership provides a great opportunity for youth to enhance their skills and gives them hope for a better future.”

Through our strong foundation in English language education and strategic partnerships, we aim to empower individuals with the skills and certifications they need to achieve their aspirations. This collaboration with UNHCR underscores our commitment to inclusion and opportunity by providing people under UNHCR’s mandate in Kuwait with access to English language training, IELTS preparation, and certification. These resources are vital steppingstones toward higher education, employment, and self-reliance.”
