UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed on Friday the news regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, calling for no restrictions on international maritime passage.
In a statement on X, Starmer said, “It’s good news that the Strait of Hormuz has now reopened. This must be a long lasting and workable solution, without tolls or restrictions on routes.” He added, “Today we announced our joint plan with France and other international partners to protect freedom of navigation,” affirming, “We need to see a return to peace and stability, and a permanent ceasefire.”
Starmer is currently in Paris, where he is co-hosting an international summit on the Strait of Hormuz with President Emmanuel Macron. During the summit, Starmer revealed the Paris summit will be followed by a multinational military planning summit in London next week as part of plans considering the deployment of a combined military effort strictly defensive in nature.
Iran announced earlier through its Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi that the Strait of Hormuz was “completely” opened. – Kuna
