Britain announced Wednesday it is organizing its first special evacuation flight for its citizens from Oman due to the security situation in the Middle East.
The British Foreign Office said in a statement that a chartered plane will depart from Muscat International Airport this evening, prioritizing those most in need of leaving and most at risk.
The statement urged British citizens to avoid going to the airport unless officially contacted by the embassy, explaining that British consular services will contact registered citizens to register them for the flight to London.
The statement confirmed that British citizens who had checked in in the United Arab Emirates for departure and then traveled to Oman can register on an emergency list to try to add some of them to the flight.
It also noted that the Foreign Office is continuing its efforts with various international airlines to find alternative departure routes for those wishing to return to the United Kingdom.
British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cowper stated on Tuesday that approximately 130,000 British citizens had registered on a special list compiled by the Foreign Office to count nationals in Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Palestine, and the occupied territories.
