In a significant step toward strengthening bilateral collaboration in sustainable development, the British Embassy in Kuwait hosted a high-profile reception bringing together key stakeholders from the green energy sector.
The event celebrated the growing UK-Kuwait partnership and showcased cutting-edge clean energy solutions, most notably the Power Box, developed by Green Power Technologies (GPT), a leading British sustainable energy firm.
The Power Box is a robust, scalable off-grid energy unit designed to deliver clean, reliable power in remote or infrastructure-challenged environments. Its launch in Kuwait signals a practical solution for diversifying energy sources and supporting environmental resilience in the region.
A central highlight of the reception was the official launch of Kuwait British Renewables (KBR), a newly formed joint venture between GPT and Kuwait’s General Control Group.
KBR aims to localize the production of smart metering systems and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, aligning closely with Kuwait’s national strategy for digital transformation and environmental sustainability.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmad Duaij Al-Sabah, Chairman of the Commercial Bank of Kuwait, and British Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Belinda Lewis, said the event underscored the importance of UK-Kuwait economic and technical collaboration — a relationship rooted in over 250 years of bilateral trade and now advancing into the green economy space.
“The United Kingdom and Kuwait have always enjoyed a close relationship built on shared values and strategic cooperation. Events like this reinforce our growing collaboration as both countries strive to meet climate goals, adopt clean technologies, and build knowledge-based economies,” the British envoy emphasized.
She noted that 49% of the UK’s electricity now comes from renewable sources, and affirmed the UK’s readiness to support Kuwait’s energy transition journey, aligned with Vision 2035.
Naz Demir, Director of Trade at the British Embassy, praised the launch of KBR as a tangible outcome of the evolving bilateral relationship, said, “This is a powerful example of how our historic partnership is driving real-world impact. Kuwait British Renewables reflects a shared vision for innovation, sustainability, and localized clean technology manufacturing.”
Christopher Maltby, Director of Green Power Technologies, added: “We are proud to bring British innovation to Kuwait. The Power Box is a practical, scalable solution for clean, off-grid energy, and this launch marks the beginning of our long-term commitment to Kuwait’s green transformation.”
Richard Clements, Director of Kuwait British Renewables, outlined the company’s mission, saying, “Our goal is to localize world-class energy solutions by manufacturing smart meters and EV infrastructure here in Kuwait. In partnership with GPT, KBR will also offer solar and battery storage systems for residential and commercial use. We are proud to contribute to a greener, digital Kuwait—built in Kuwait, for Kuwait.”
This event marks a significant milestone in UK-Kuwait relations and demonstrates both countries’ resolve to tackle the climate crisis through innovation, investment, and strategic cooperation.
