UIS equips commerce students with real-world career insights

Kaizar Shakir, IBPC Chairman, urged students to distinguish between knowledge and information, happiness and possession, and other key contrasts, inspiring them to stay curious, blend passion with practicality, and embrace a global mindset.

The career session seamlessly combined practical wisdom, motivational storytelling, and forward-thinking advice, leaving United Indian School students both informed and inspired to shape their future careers with clarity, purpose, and confidence.

United Indian School (UIS) hosted an inspiring career guidance session for its Grade XI and XII commerce students on April 24. The event featured a keynote address by Mr. Kaizar Shakir, Hon. Chairman of IBPC-Kuwait and Director & CFO of Gulf Consult, Kuwait — a distinguished leader known for his dynamic career and thought leadership in the finance sector.

Organized by the Commerce Department, the session was attended by Principal Mr. C. Radhakrishnan, Head of Commerce Mr. Thomas Mathew, and the Commerce faculty, whose efforts ensured the success of the event.

Themed “Navigating the Future: Career Insights for Students,” Mr. Shakir’s talk offered students a real-world perspective on the rapidly evolving professional landscape. Encouraging them to do ordinary things differently, he introduced the growing importance of emerging fields such as data analytics, fintech, ESG and sustainability, risk advisory, cybersecurity, forensics, international tax, and transfer pricing — highlighting that these once-niche areas are now critical career options for commerce students.

Sharing anecdotes from his personal journey — from “Sea to CA” and his relocation to Kuwait in 1995 — Mr. Shaker captivated the audience with stories of resilience, ambition, and adaptation. He emphasized the “skills of the future,” including critical thinking, digital literacy, empathy, communication, integrity, and lifelong learning. “Innovate or evaporate,” he remarked, underlining the need for a shift from mere academic qualifications to the development of vital soft skills.

Mr. Shakir also encouraged students to reflect on deeper distinctions — between knowledge and information, happiness and possession, modernization and westernization, and relations and connections — inspiring them to stay curious, blend passion with practicality, and cultivate a global mindset.

The session was a powerful blend of practical wisdom, motivational storytelling, and forward-thinking career advice. It left UIS students not only better informed but genuinely inspired to shape their future careers with clarity, purpose, and confidence.
