UAE strengthens Africa ties at AUS in Addis Ababa

Sheikh Shakhbout reaffirms support for Africa’s development agenda

His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State, participated in the African Union Summit held on February 14, 2026, in Addis Ababa, capital of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, alongside African heads of state, government leaders, and senior officials.

The summit focused on key continental priorities, including peace and security, economic integration, and sustainable development across Africa.

During bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the gathering, Sheikh Shakhbout conveyed the greetings of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with their wishes for continued progress and prosperity for African Union member states, reports WAM daily.

The UAE’s participation reflects its leadership’s commitment to strengthening relations with African nations and expanding partnerships founded on trust, mutual respect, and shared development goals.

The country reiterated its support for initiatives aimed at enhancing peace, stability, and sustainable growth across the continent.

The UAE also reaffirmed its backing of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, emphasizing continued cooperation with the African Union Commission and member states in strategic sectors such as trade and investment, renewable energy, food security, digital transformation, and capacity building.

On the sidelines of the summit, Sheikh Shakhbout held meetings with several African leaders and senior officials to review regional political and economic developments and explore avenues for further expanding bilateral cooperation.
