Two senior officials of a coop put behind bars in bribery case

In a recent ruling, the Criminal Court sentenced the chairman of the board of directors of a cooperative society and a purchasing official to two years in prison each after finding them guilty in a bribery case.
The case unfolded following a carefully executed ambush by the Criminal Investigation Department, which had been monitoring the suspects based on prior investigations.
According to case details, the two defendants had demanded a bribe from a vegetable vendor — an expatriate working with the cooperative. They allegedly asked for 10 percent of his monthly vegetable sales income in exchange for allowing him to continue supplying goods to the cooperative and for ensuring that his checks would be processed without delay.
The Public Prosecution referred the case to court and demanded appropriate penalties, leading to the criminal convictions and prison sentences handed down by the judiciary.
