Two MCI employees get 10 years each for bribe, abuse of power

The Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Abdulwahab Al-Maili, sentenced two Ministry of Commerce and Industry employees — a supervisor and a transaction coordinator — to 10 years in prison each, imposed a KD 400,000 fine, and ordered their dismissal from public service.
The duo was convicted of abusing their positions, accepting bribes to overlook commercial violations, and producing false reports.
The court also granted immunity to an expatriate who cooperated with the authorities and confessed to his involvement with the defendants.
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior had announced the arrest of the two employees and an accomplice on charges of corruption and accepting bribes in return for ignoring violations and falsifying infractions.
The General Department of Public Relations and Security Media stated that detectives, acting on intelligence, secured legal authorization and caught the suspects red-handed while receiving KD 50,000 of an agreed KD 200,000 bribe.
The operation, carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, was described as part of ongoing efforts to fight corruption and safeguard public integrity.
The Ministry emphasized that “the law applies to all without exception” and affirmed the determination of security forces to confront anyone who threatens the country’s security.
