Tweeter put behind bars for six years for insulting Emirate, misusing social media

The Criminal Court has sentenced a social media user to six years in prison with hard labor, for insulting the Emirate and misusing telecommunications tools via a tweet posted on the “X” platform.

According to the court’s ruling, the accused was sentenced to five years in prison with hard labor for three charges related to unlawful association.

Additionally, the court ordered the closure of his social media account for one year and placed him under police surveillance for five years after he completes his sentence, reports Al-Anba daily.

His mobile phone, used in the incident, was also ordered to be confiscated.

On a fourth charge, the court sentenced the defendant to an additional one year in prison with hard labor and imposed a fine of 5,000 Kuwaiti dinars.

The verdict reflects the court’s strict stance against online offenses involving state institutions and national symbols.
