U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Steve Witkoff, the U.S. envoy to the Middle East, is scheduled to visit Russia on Wednesday or Thursday.
The purpose of the visit has not been disclosed.
In the meantime, Trump warned that the United States is prepared to impose further sanctions on Russia if it continues its war in Ukraine, but acknowledged that “Russia is very skilled at circumventing sanctions.”
In a separate statement, Trump said the administration will name a candidate to fill the vacant seat on the Federal Reserve Board “within the next few days.”
