U.S. President Donald Trump issued a new warning to China on Friday, threatening to impose a massive increase in tariffs amid rising tensions between the two countries.
Trump accused Beijing of becoming “very hostile”, saying he now “sees no reason” to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“I was scheduled to meet the Chinese president in two weeks, but now there is no reason for that,” Trump told reporters.
Earlier reports had suggested that a meeting between the two leaders could take place during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in South Korea at the end of October.
The latest remarks signal a further deterioration in U.S.–China relations, already strained by trade disputes, technology restrictions, and geopolitical tensions.
