In a message posted on social media, US President Donald Trump said leading American business executives are accompanying him on the visit to China, expressing optimism about expanding U.S. commercial opportunities in the Chinese market.
Trump said on Tuesday that he plans to urge the Chinese President Xi Jinping to further open China’s economy to American companies during their upcoming summit this week.
Trump described Xi as “a leader of extraordinary stature” and said he would encourage China to allow American companies broader access to operate and invest in the country, according to news reports.
He added U.S. firms could help “elevate the People’s Republic of China to a higher level” through their expertise, innovation and investment capabilities.
The remarks come amid continued global attention on U.S.-China economic relations, trade cooperation and market access issues, which remain key topics between the world’s two largest economies.
