U.S. President Donald Trump lauded his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Monday as the two leaders met ahead of the international Gaza peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, highlighting el-Sisi’s leadership and Egypt’s key role in regional stability.
Trump described el-Sisi as “a strong leader who has kept crime rates down in his country,” adding, “He’s done a very important job. I appreciate that very much.” He confirmed that discussions during the summit would focus on plans for the reconstruction of Gaza and strengthening regional cooperation, reports Al-Rai daily.
Egyptian President el-Sisi, for his part, commended Trump’s role in achieving the Gaza agreement, stressing the importance of consolidating and sustaining the peace efforts that ended the conflict.
Trump’s arrival in Sharm el-Sheikh comes shortly before the start of the Gaza peace summit, which brings together regional and international leaders to chart the next phase of stability and rebuilding efforts in the Palestinian territory.
