Trump picks Kevin Warsh to lead Federal Reserve after Powell

U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated Kevin Warsh to succeed Jerome Powell as Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System following the conclusion of Powell’s term in May.

Announcing the decision on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump voiced strong confidence in Warsh’s leadership. “I have known Kevin for a long period of time, and have no doubt that he will go down as one of the great Fed chairmen — maybe the best,” the president wrote, praising his experience and presence.

Trump highlighted Warsh’s academic and professional background, noting that he serves as the Shepard Family Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution and as a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, according to CNBC.

Warsh is also a partner at Duquesne Family Office LLC, alongside investor Stanley Druckenmiller. He holds an A.B. from Stanford University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Warsh previously made history as the youngest Federal Reserve Governor, appointed at age 35. He served on the Fed’s Board of Governors from 2006 to 2011.

During his tenure, he represented the Federal Reserve at the Group of Twenty (G20) and acted as the board’s emissary to both emerging and advanced Asian economies. He also served as Administrative Governor, overseeing the board’s operations, personnel, and financial performance.

Before joining the Fed, Warsh served from 2002 to 2006 as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and Executive Secretary of the White House National Economic Council.

Earlier in his career, he worked in mergers and acquisitions at Morgan Stanley in New York, where he held senior leadership roles.

The nomination comes at a sensitive time for the Federal Reserve, which faces institutional and political pressures, legal scrutiny, and ongoing concerns about the cost of living — a key issue in the administration’s economic agenda.

If confirmed by the Senate, Warsh would assume one of the most influential roles in global finance, with primary responsibility for U.S. monetary policy, interest rate decisions, and efforts to contain inflation.
