U.S. President Donald Trump announced that no U.S. government official will attend the upcoming G20 summit in South Africa, citing what he described as ongoing “human rights abuses” in ‘Pretoria’.
In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump said, “It is a total disgrace that the G20 summit is being held in South Africa. Afrikaners — people descended from Dutch, French, and German settlers — are being slaughtered and their lands and farms are being illegally seized.”
He added that the United States would boycott the meeting “as long as these abuses continue,” while expressing his intention to host the 2026 G20 summit in Miami, Florida.
In response, South Africa’s foreign ministry described Trump’s remarks as “regrettable”, rejecting his claims of racial persecution against white farmers.
The ministry reiterated that such allegations have no factual basis and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to human rights and equality.
The G20 summit, scheduled for later this month, is expected to focus on global economic stability, trade, and sustainable development.
