“Trade Ministry” denies using WhatsApp for communication or payment requests

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, vehemently denied what is being circulated on social media, about the allocation of a WhatsApp number, falsely claiming it as belonging to the Ministry, and asking for bank links from users.

The Ministry also categorically confirmed that it does not use the WhatsApp application at all.

Rather it specified in a statement that communication and the provision of services are carried out through the government’s ‘Sahel’ application only. This being an easier application meant for business and the official websites of the Ministry.

The Ministry added caution and warned everyone to be careful and not to deal with any unofficial messages or numbers. And in case, if you receive any suspicious messages, please do not respond, and report immediately to the authority.
