Toastmasters come together for fun, friendship, and a friendly badminton tournament

What began as a simple outdoor sports plan turned into a spirited community gathering when the Desert Pioneers and Dreamweavers Toastmasters Club hosted a friendly badminton tournament on December 19, 2025, at the ICSK Junior School in Salmiya.
The event brought together members, families and friends for a morning defined by sportsmanship and togetherness.
Uncertainty loomed ahead of the tournament after heavy rainfall the previous night threatened to disrupt the open-air courts.
However, the weather cleared just in time, allowing the organizers to proceed as scheduled — a development that set the tone for a day shaped by adaptability and collective resolve.

From early morning, the courts buzzed with activity as players of all ages took part, ranging from first-time child participants to experienced badminton enthusiasts. While matches were keenly contested, the atmosphere remained friendly and inclusive, with spectators actively cheering and encouraging players throughout the tournament.
The smooth conduct of the matches was ensured by umpire Nabeel Fiyas, whose calm and professional oversight maintained fair play and order. His role proved vital in managing scores and close calls, helping preserve the tournament’s friendly spirit and earning appreciation from participants.
Eight doubles teams competed in the tournament, advancing through the quarterfinals and semifinals before a closely fought final decided the top positions. Wafiq Anwar emerged as a standout performer and played a key role in introducing Shahul Hameed and Naina Mohamed, whose participation raised the competitive level and momentum of the games. The confident performances of younger players also added a lively dimension to the event.
The tournament’s success was supported by strong behind-the-scenes teamwork, including planning and logistics handled by Mohamed Shiraz, and thoughtful gestures such as homemade ginger tea provided by Nasruddin Parkar to combat the morning chill. The day concluded with a shared breakfast, reinforcing the sense of unity that underscored the event — a reminder that the Toastmasters spirit thrives well beyond the meeting room.
