Thanima Kuwait to host 19th National Tug of War Championship

. . . and 13th ‘Pearl of the School’ Awards on November 28

Thanima Kuwait is set to host the 19th National Tug of War Championship for the Sanseelia Ever Rolling Trophy on Nov 28 at the Open Floodlight Stadium of the Integrated Indian School in Abbasiya.

The event will run from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm, as announced by the Onathanima Convener. This year, the venue has been named “M.T. Nagar” in memory of the renowned Malayalam writer late M.T. Vasudevan Nair, and will be inaugurated by businessman and Karate expert Suresh Karthik (6th Dan Black Belt, Japan).

The public meeting will feature distinguished guests, including Portuguese international volleyball player Jose Pedro Gomez, NRI Tug of War Selection Committee Chairman Harvinder Singh, along with prominent cultural leaders and business personalities from the Kuwaiti community.

Awards Honoring Excellence

Alongside the championship, the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam ‘Pearl of the School’ Awards will be presented to outstanding students from 24 Indian schools in Kuwait in recognition of their academic and co-curricular achievements.

The event will also include the presentation of the Bini Memorial Award, established in memory of a former United Indian School teacher, to the top-performing Grade 7 student of UIS.

Additionally, medals and certificates will be awarded to the Kuwait National Tug of War Team, which won the silver medal at the Asian Championship in Malaysia.

Organizing Committee and Guests

The event was attended by Binil Skaria (Onathanima Convener), Jacob Varghese (Program Convener), Babuji Bathery (Organising Committee Chairman), Jins Mathew (Thanima Sports Convener), Jojimon Thomas (Thanima General Convener), Jinu K. Abraham (Thanima Office Secretary), Rana Varghese (Thanima Treasurer), Dominic Antony (Onathanima Joint Convener), Shaji Varghese (Onathanima Finance Convener), Vijesh Velayudhan (Thanima Joint Convener), D.K. Dileep (NRI Tug of War Federation General Secretary), Usha Dileep (Thanima Ladies Wing Convener), and Mubarak Kambrath (Media Convener).

A Grand Sporting Festival

This year’s Tug of War festival will feature over 20 teams that have undergone months of dedicated training, alongside more than 30 international athletes.

Conducted with the approval of the Tug of War Federation of India, the event will serve as a platform for identifying top performers who may be selected to represent Kuwait at national championships in India.

A major highlight remains the towering Ever Rolling Trophies, standing an impressive 5–6 feet tall, symbolizing the spirit and legacy of the Thanima Tug of War Championship.
