- Kuwait hosts talks on strengthening the Asia Cooperation Dialogue’s role in addressing regional and international challenges ahead of its 25th anniversary
The Secretary-General of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), Ambassador Nasser Al-Motairi, met with Thai Foreign Minister’s Adviser Arthayudh Srisamoot during his visit to the ACD Secretariat in Kuwait, with discussions focusing on strengthening the organisation’s role and improving its ability to respond to regional and international challenges.
The meeting was attended by Thailand’s Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Songchai Chaipatiyut, and Pornpimol Sugandhavanija, Deputy Director-General of Thailand’s Department of International Economic Affairs. According to a statement issued by the ACD Secretariat, the talks took place as preparations continue for the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue in 2027.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen the ACD and develop its mechanisms so that it can respond more effectively to the growing range of regional and international challenges facing Asian countries. The discussions also addressed the importance of strengthening the organisation’s ability to reflect the shared positions and perspectives of Asian countries on issues of common concern.
The meeting highlighted the need to continue developing the ACD as a platform that brings Asian countries together and promotes greater cooperation and coordination among them. The two sides also discussed efforts to help shape a stronger “Voice of Asia” and enhance the region’s collective presence in addressing the issues and challenges affecting Asia and the wider international community.
The discussions come as the ACD approaches a significant milestone in 2027, providing an opportunity for its members to assess the dialogue’s development and consider ways to further strengthen cooperation among Asian countries. With the ACD Secretariat based in Kuwait, the country continues to serve as an important hub for the dialogue’s activities and engagement with its member states.
