Tent market comes alive as camping season set to begin next Saturday
Market remains opens daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m

With the start of Kuwait’s camping season set for next Saturday, the tent market has come alive, showcasing a wide variety of tents in different sizes, colors, and styles to meet the growing demand.
As Kuwait’s camping season approaches, the tent market has seen a surge in activity, with vendors reporting strong demand for a variety of designs and materials.
According to sellers, the market’s current location — on the site of the old Capital slaughterhouse, behind the Shuwaikh Industrial Police Station on the Fourth Ring Road — is better organized than previous sites. However, traffic congestion remains a major issue, making it difficult for customers to access the area.

Vendors highlighted that most tents available in Kuwait are imported from Pakistan, known for its craftsmanship and high-quality fabrics.
Arshad, one of the sellers, explained that Pakistani tents come in two main varieties — the traditional Pakistani fabric and the “Subh” fabric, which is more durable and provides better thermal insulation but costs nearly twice as much.
At the same time, Saudi-made Bedouin tents are gaining popularity among both younger and older campers. Vendor Abdullah Bu Ali noted that these tents, prized for their cultural heritage and sturdiness, range in price from about 150 to 500 dinars depending on size. He added that modern versions now include safety enhancements to prevent leaks and withstand harsh weather conditions.

The tent market operates daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with 67 plots distributed by Kuwait Municipality through a public lottery to former market owners.
Despite the market’s success, visitors and shop owners have raised complaints about limited access. The single entrance and exit gate on Al-Ghazali Street has led to severe congestion, worsened by ongoing roadworks. They also pointed to the lack of functioning restrooms, which have been under renovation since the site’s designation for tent sales.

In response, Nawaf Al-Kandari, Director of the Farwaniya Governorate Municipality, said he would coordinate with the Projects Committee to speed up restroom maintenance and consult the Traffic Engineering Department on the possibility of adding another gate to improve access and reduce congestion.
