Telugu Kala Samithi celebrates Sankranthi with traditional grandeur in Kuwait

The Telugu Kala Samithi (TKS) in Kuwait organized a full-day Sankranthi celebration on Friday, January 23, at Aspire Indian International School, Abbassiya, bringing together Telugu families to relive the spirit of traditional village festivities.

The day began with early morning rituals, including the Bhogi fire and Gowramma Pooja, followed by vibrant cultural performances such as Kolaatam, Karra Saamu, Puliveshalu, Chekka Bhajana, and a traditional Kodi Pandalu, recreating an authentic rural Sankranthi atmosphere.

The celebrations continued in the school auditorium with lamp lighting and devotional songs by children.

TKS also provided a platform for local talent, with around 350 members participating in a variety of individual and group performances, including instrumental music, singing, skits, mono acting, speed painting, Rubik’s Cube challenges, and energetic dance performances by kids, ladies, and gents.

Creative contests such as Rangoli, Cookery, and Kids Sankranthi competitions added to the festive excitement.

The highlight of the day was the traditional Sankranthi lunch, where over 1,300 attendees were served 21 varieties of dishes on banana leaves, offering a true function-style dining experience. The event also featured the Bhogi Pallu ceremony, where young children received blessings from elders.

TKS President Hemchand Basva addressed the gathering, highlighting the association’s recent activities, including DSP Live@Kuwait, Telugu Baala, Bathukamma, community picnics, beach cleaning initiatives, and participation in Indian Embassy-related charity programs.

He expressed gratitude to the sponsors, the Advisory Committee, and volunteers for their support and cooperation.

The occasion was graced by Guest of Honor S.N. Ramachandran along with sponsors from Kuwait and India. The event also marked the launch of TKS’s new website, followed by the half-yearly General Body Meeting.

The day concluded with joy, cultural pride, and strengthened bonds within the Telugu community in Kuwait.
