Swiss Embassy hosts landmark event titled ‘Diabetes Research: An International Synergy

The Embassy of Switzerland, in cooperation with the Swiss-Kuwaiti Business Platform, organized a high-profile conference at the residence of the Swiss Ambassador to Kuwait on May 12, under the title ‘Diabetes Research: An International Synergy’.

The event brought together leading experts from Switzerland and Kuwait to discuss groundbreaking research on diabetes, fostering dialogue and cooperation between the two nations.

The conference featured a co-presentation by Professor Pedro Marques-Vidal from the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) Lausanne and Dr. Abdulla Al Kandari from the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). They shared their collaborative research conducted over the past three years, focusing on the prevalence of diabetes, management, and preventive strategies in both Kuwait and Switzerland.

Dr. Ebaa Al Ozairi, Chief Medical Officer at the Dasman Diabetes Institute, presented her current research initiatives at the institute. She also highlighted her ongoing collaboration with Mr. Wolfram Anderson, Executive Manager for Research and Innovation at KDD Company.

Mr. Anderson elaborated on KDD’s efforts to develop 2/2 a new line of products aimed at combating the diabetes pandemic, alongside their research partnership with the Dasman Diabetes Institute.

In his remarks, the Swiss Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the distinguished speakers, especially to Professor Marques-Vidal for traveling from Geneva to participate in the event. He also thanked Dr. Faisal Al-Refai, Acting Director General of the Dasman Diabetes Institute, for his attendance, and KDD company for their resolute dedication to scientific advancement and societal wellbeing.

The Ambassador underscored his aspiration for a sustained and institutionalized framework of scientific cooperation between the academic and medical communities of Switzerland and Kuwait.

He affirmed the indispensable value of such bilateral engagements in confronting the escalating global burden of non-communicable diseases.

The conference demonstrated the strong commitment of both Switzerland and Kuwait to address public health challenges through innovative research and bilateral cooperation.
