Sweeping road repairs across Kuwait’s governorates announced

Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, Minister of Public Works,announced the start of extensive road maintenance in Hawalli Governorate, part of eighteen major repair projects across six governorates.

Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, Minister of Public Works, said the road maintenance work in Hawalli governorate will start in the most affected areas, followed by the less impacted ones, with ongoing supervision and monitoring of the maintenance efforts.

Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan called on the public to be patient and cooperate with the authorities, especially as some roads will be closed during the upcoming period for maintenance work and emphasized that road maintenance and repair is one of the political leaderships top priorities.

 

Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, Minister of Public Works, announced the commencement of extensive road maintenance work in Hawalli Governorate as part of new contracts for highway and internal road repairs. The project includes eighteen major road maintenance initiatives across various regions of the six governorates, according to Al Qabas newspaper.

Al-Mashaan stated in a press statement that her directives to begin road maintenance in Hawalli Governorate are based on the recommendations of His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister, as part of the government’s commitment to maintaining and repairing the country’s infrastructure.

She added that the road maintenance work in Hawalli will start in the most affected areas, followed by the less impacted ones, with ongoing supervision and monitoring of the maintenance efforts.

She explained that work teams from the Ministry of Public Works will oversee the implementation of the repairs, and a committee has been formed to select supervising engineers, who have been tested to ensure their competence in managing the projects.

She emphasized the importance of coordination to resolve any outstanding issues related to the road maintenance works, calling for the swift completion of all tasks with the required quality and efficiency, in line with the approved technical specifications and the promised timeline.

She called on the public to be patient and cooperate with the relevant authorities, especially as some roads will be closed during the upcoming period for maintenance work. She emphasized that road maintenance and repair is one of the political leadership’s top priorities.

In this regard, she expressed her appreciation for the high-level directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh MeshalAl-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, which support and prioritize road maintenance projects to strengthen the infrastructure pillar in line with the “New Kuwait 2035” vision.

Comprehensive plan to accelerate road projects

The road maintenance work in Hawalli Governorate began just days after Minister Dr. Noura Al-Mashaanannounced the commencement of major maintenance works in Al-Ahmadi Governorate. These efforts are part of new contracts for highway and internal road maintenance, which include eighteen significant maintenance projects across various regions in the six governorates.

The Ministry of Public Works reiterated its commitment to implementing a comprehensive plan to accelerate the completion of road projects on schedule while adhering to international quality standards.

Furthermore, the source informed Al-Qabas newspaper that the ministry has applied strict controls and mechanisms to ensure maintenance quality and avoid previous issues. The new and advanced technical specifications for paving and quality control have been adopted, along with a revised selection and testing process for engineers working on road paving projects.

The total number of contracts signed by the ministry with companies amounted to eighteen, including twelve contracts for the six governorates (two contracts for each governorate), all of which are managed by the Ministry of Public Works. Additionally, there are six contracts for highways managed by the Roads and Land Transport Authority.

Commitment to infrastructure safety

The supervisor of road works root maintenance, M. Nasser Al-Zoubi, stated that Ministry of Public Works teams are dedicated to ensuring the safety of infrastructure, particularly rain drainage lines, through cleaning and repairing malfunctions.

Al-Zoubi pointed out that maintenance work will begin in Hawalli Governorate, covering the areas of Bayan, Musharraf, Salwa, Al-Jabriya, Salmiya, Mubarak Al-Abdullah, and Al-Siddiq. He called on the residents of these areas to cooperate in order to complete the work on time.

Key road maintenance standards

  • Adopting neutral laboratories to measure international quality standards.
  • Monitoring technical errors and detecting any issues in asphalt mixture samples.
  • Implementing a mechanism to prevent the recurrence of gravel volatilization and other negative issues.
  • Adopting a heavy truck weighing system for vehicles passing on any highway or internal road.
