Sunday, Dec 21 marks start of Rajab and winter solstice in Kuwait: Al-Ujairi Center

The Al-Ujairi Scientific Center announced Sunday, December 21, 2025, will mark the first day of the Islamic month of Rajab for the year 1447 AH, based on precise astronomical calculations.

According to the center, the crescent of Rajab will be born on Saturday, December 20, at 4:44 am Kuwait time and will set approximately eight minutes after sunset on the same day, as observed from Kuwait, reports Al-Rai daily.

The center also noted that Sunday will coincide with the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. On this day, the sun reaches its lowest point in the sky, perpendicular to the Tropic of Capricorn, casting the longest afternoon shadows and marking the official start of the winter season in the northern hemisphere. Meanwhile, the southern hemisphere will experience the summer solstice.

Sunrise on the day of the winter solstice is expected at 6:38 am, with sunset at 4:54 pm. The center explained that following the solstice, daylight hours will gradually increase until the spring equinox, when day and night hours are equal.
