State Audit Bureau approves one-billion-dinar North Kabd water purification project

Strategic water infrastructure gets boost

The State Audit Bureau has approved the Ministry of Works’ request for a direct contract to undertake the study, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the North Kabd Purification Plant and its complementary works, with a project value of approximately one billion dinars.

The North Kabd Station is considered a strategic infrastructure project, aimed at enhancing the country’s water treatment and purification capabilities, improving the efficiency of environmental services, and supporting Kuwait’s broader plans to develop the sewage system and promote environmental sustainability, reports Al-Rai daily..

The facility is set to become one of the largest wastewater treatment plants in Kuwait, with a capacity of about one million cubic meters per day. It will employ internationally approved environmental treatment technologies and integrate renewable energy systems, enhancing the station’s sustainability and reducing operational environmental impact.

Officials highlighted that the station will deliver high-quality treated water suitable for agricultural and industrial use, and support operations in the oil sector, contributing to the country’s efforts to rationalize fresh water consumption and preserve natural resources.

The North Kabd project is also seen as a model for adopting and localizing modern technologies, reflecting Kuwait’s commitment to environmental sustainability, water security, and the application of innovative solutions in key infrastructure projects.
