Social Media user gets three years with hard labor for abusing state symbols

The Court of Cassation has sentenced a social media user to three years imprisonment with hard labor after convicting him of insulting the Emir, the judiciary and the national flag through content published on social media.

According to court documents, the Public Prosecution had charged the accused with publishing offensive statements on his personal account on a social networking platform, reports Al-Rai daily.

The content was deemed offensive to the person of the HH the Amir and pose a risk of harming Kuwait’s political relations.

The defendant was also convicted of insulting members of the judiciary by publishing abusive phrases contained in the case records, in addition to deliberately misusing a means of telecommunications.

The verdict is final and cannot be appealed.
