‘Social Affairs’ rolls out ‘Kuwaiti Farmer’s Corner’; warns coops against non-compliance

The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to regulate and streamline the marketing of national agricultural produce, ensuring rapid implementation while delivering tangible support to Kuwaiti farmers and strengthening the presence of domestic products within cooperative outlets.

Following the publication of Ministerial Resolution No. (347) of 2025 in the Official Gazette Kuwait Alyawm establishing the “Kuwaiti Farmer’s Corner,” the Ministry of Social Affairs has moved swiftly to translate the decision into action, launching a coordinated set of regulatory and operational measures to integrate local agricultural products into cooperative societies.

The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to regulate and streamline the marketing of national agricultural produce, ensuring rapid implementation while delivering tangible support to Kuwaiti farmers and strengthening the presence of domestic products within cooperative outlets, reports Al-Rai daily.

In this context, the Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Financial, Administrative and Cooperative Affairs, Dr. Sayed Issa, confirmed that the ministry has prepared and circulated a unified inspection model to the relevant authorities.

Simultaneously, official correspondence has been initiated with chairpersons of cooperative society boards, instructing them to allocate designated spaces for the Kuwaiti Farmer’s Corner in strict accordance with the resolution.

Issa explained that cooperative societies have also been directed to appoint a specialized procurement officer in each cooperative to serve as a focal point for coordination and follow-up.

This step aims to accelerate responses to inquiries and swiftly resolve any operational obstacles that may emerge during the implementation phase.

He noted that the ministry’s vegetable inspection teams are continuing their fieldwork in close coordination with cooperative societies, working alongside administrative and financial supervisors to ensure the decision is applied on the ground within approved regulatory frameworks.

These efforts are being carried out under the direct supervision of Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, as part of a wider agenda to support local production and reinforce the cooperative sector.

At the same time, Issa issued a firm call to the boards of directors of cooperative societies to fully shoulder their responsibilities, stressing the importance of sound cooperative governance — particularly regular attendance, effective follow-up, and the uninterrupted operation of society services.

He warned that any negligence or failure to perform assigned duties by board members will not be tolerated. Non-compliant boards will be summoned, and decisive measures will be taken in cases where obstruction or refusal to fulfill responsibilities is proven.

Such measures may include dismissal and the appointment of alternative leadership, ensuring continuity of work and the proper management of cooperative societies.
