Smart license set for launch in October, Commerce Ministry confirms

Smart license to simplify issuance, oversight, and renewal procedures; unified payment system for smart license to be ready by December; Education declines participation in smart license program

Abdullah Al-Harz, Director of the International Relations Department and spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said the smart license system will officially be implemented next October according to the planned timetable.

Speaking at a press conference at the Government Communication Center, Al-Harz explained that the ministry has already completed the integration with most government agencies, with only three entities remaining to be linked. He noted that the Ministry of Education declined participation, as it does not issue commercial licenses.

Al-Harz added that while the unification of license fees is planned for a later stage, work is currently focused on unifying license renewal dates through the new system, reports Al-Rai daily.

Another feature under development is the “combined payment” step, which will allow license fees to be paid directly to the Ministry of Commerce, which will then distribute the fees owed to other participating authorities. This mechanism is expected to be ready by December.

The smart license will also offer significant advantages, including faster issuance, simplified procedures, and streamlined oversight of participating entities.
