Smart ID readers, thermal cameras to boost security at land border ports

The land border ports have been equipped with smart ID card readers similar to those used at airports, to accurately scan civil and personal ID cards and are capable of detecting any tampering attempts.

A security source told Al-Anba daily the ports will also be equipped with thermal cameras designed to count the number of individuals inside vehicles to prevent human smuggling attempts.

The installation is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The installation of advanced equipment came upon directives by Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef following a visit who to the ports to enhance security measures.
