‘Sheraa’ receives applications for Kuwait Media Award

The applications will be received from Sunday, May 18 until July 18

The Supreme Committee of the Kuwait Media Award (Sheraa) is receiving applications for media across all formats — visual, audio, print, and digital — starting tomorrow, Sunday, and continuing through July 18. Submissions can be made via the award’s dedicated page on the Ministry of Information’s website (media.gov.kw).

In a statement, the Chairman of the Higher Committee, Saad Al-Ali, emphasized that the award reflects the Ministry of Information’s commitment to advancing the media landscape in Kuwait. “We are keen to support outstanding work across all media sectors, particularly digital media,” Al-Ali said. He encouraged all creative and distinguished Kuwaiti media professionals to participate in the Sheraa Awards, noting that the initiative honors the media’s vital role in shaping public opinion, fostering dialogue, and developing leadership.

This year’s award coincides with Kuwait’s designation as the Arab Capital of Culture and Media for 2025, adding a distinguished regional dimension to the initiative. Al-Ali extended his sincere gratitude to the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, for his dedication to spotlighting the contributions of media professionals through this award, which was first announced in January.

The Sheraa Award includes 16 categories, recognizing both individual and group achievements.

Individual awards include Best Interviewer, Best Content Creator, Best Investigative Report, Best Columnist, Best Critical Article, Best Photograph, Best Caricature

Group awards include Best Interview, Best Documentary, Best Individual Interview, Best Interactive Program, Best Photography, Best Work Using Artificial Intelligence and Best Integrated Media Campaign

In addition to these, the committee will select a recipient for the Media Appreciation Award, honoring a media figure with a notable and lasting impact on the field. It will also present the Supreme Committee Award to a work selected based on its relevance to a national issue, innovative presentation, and positive societal impact.

Entries will be judged by expert panels specialized in each category. Winners will be honored at a ceremony scheduled for December 2025.

Applicants must submit works that were published between May 18, 2024, and the application deadline. All entries are to be submitted online via the Ministry’s website.

The Sheraa Award aims to promote excellence, foster innovation, and celebrate creative contributions within Kuwait’s vibrant media sector. It seeks to cultivate a spirit of competitiveness and professionalism while reinforcing the media’s crucial role in influencing public discourse and addressing community concerns.
