Shelter for male expatriate workers slated for completion by year-end

Kuwait’s Public Authority for Manpower intends to open a shelter for male expatriate workers during the last quarter of this year, like the current shelter designated for women.

The Director of Public Relations and Media, the official spokesperson for the Public Authority for Manpower, Aseel Al-Mazyad, said, “The last quarter of this year will witness the opening of the expatriate workers’ shelter for men, and it will be similar to the women’s center.”

On World Humanitarian Workday, Al Mayzad commented that the expatriate workers’ shelter for female inmates is the first of its kind in the Gulf region and the Middle East. It was established in 2014 and has a 500 inmates’ capacity.

She explained that the entry mechanism for female inmates is through two channels, the first being voluntary entry and the second is through embassies or public benefit associations, noting that the center provides many services such as shelter, meals, recreational and psychological services, as reported by Al Rai media.

She added that the shelter currently houses 102 women with 10 children, although the numbers vary with regular entry and exit of female inmates.
